hoopingdotorg:

Ophelia Violet, otherwise known as Jennie Brennen, gives this video her all and even her body knows it. “I’m not sure I own a muscle that isn’t sore today from making this,” she explains, and we’re grateful that she did. It’s rare that we get to watch such a raw, exciting, wild and powerful hoop dance – and don’t miss her foot hooping as she rises near the end. Chills. She lives in London, England, UK, and the soundtrack for this is “Poison Dart (featuring Warrior Queen)” by The Bug and you can get a copy of it for yourself on iTunes.

I was starting to get bored…

Over the winter I began  to lose interest in hooping… then I got a polypro and it made me feel sexy again <3

Such a beautiful day to spin!

New fire spinners info at wakarusa 2013

In the past there has been no rules with fire spinning. Basically, it was an open spin with no order, many rogue fire spinners spinning at campsites, in the middle of crowds, side of the roads all while being under the influence of substances.

This year my troupe Vibe Tribe KC with the help of other troupes will host the first fire safety workshops. Our goal is to unit our knowledge of fire safety to teach our community. And to unite the performers that are paid to come show their art form and the rogue spinners that just want to be there for fun. In a safe, and fun atmosphere Fire spinners will be un-able to spin unless they visit the workshop and receive a bracelet.

Please visit the site below for details. Spread the word to other fire spinners.

The Piscis Volans Circus Indie GoGo drive!

wandering-neko:

Though sometimes this blog gets a little haywire, I’m a hooper and aspiring circus performer. This is the circus my friends and I have come to create. We are all very broke.. please help us out! even a dollar can help us reach our goal. Just so the aerialist can perform where she pleases (a new rig) and we can have insurance for the whole thing.

Even if you can’t contribute, share the link. This lil baby circus needs all the love it can get :P thank yoooou *hugs*

Yay circus adventures!

off-body hoop trick … whatsitcalled?

Do any of you hoopers know the name of this move? You have the hoop straight above you, held still, in one hand and then just twist your arm/wrist in such a way that it appears to twirl on its way down. It can be repeated by sweeping it back up above your head. You never actually let go of the hoop and have it firmly in your palm the entire time. looks great with twin hoops.

it’s really simple i know but i cant find a video of it because i don’t know what to call it. i feel like i’ve seen it used for choreographed dances quite a bit. thank yuuuuuu

{edit: it was the eggbeater! thank you, heather! }

Indoor Spin Jam on Sundays in St. Louis, MO

Sunday Spin Jam Hosted By St. Louis Hoop Club

Open to the public and family friendly- these meet-ups called Sunday Spin Jam offer people a chance to spin freely and with others- see our Facebook for dates.  A five dollar donation is requested, but not required.  Typically we meet twice a month on Sunday afternoons from 1-4 pm at 2720 Cherokee Street.  Music is played by PA system or the occasional live band or DJ.  Over 40 demo hoops of various sizes, weights, or lights are at your disposal to play with.  Please bring your own water and dress for movement.  Our passion for the hoop is deep and dedicated.  We believe that hoops can change lives, lift spirits, heal, and give you a great workout.  To us hooping is the ultimate form of expression through dance.  Due to amazing support we have made partnerships with the Botanical Garden, St. Louis School District, Koken Art Factory, Art Dimensions, 2720 Cherokee, 88.1kdhx and so many more

(I’ll post some info about their World Hoop Day events later… they even had lyra classes but registration has filled up already)

I’m planning to do some research later about places that offer hooping troupes indoor hoop space, since having options always helps. For now, if you’re in Colorado I suggest you join the “Colorado Hoopers” group on HoopCity.ca where the topic comes up frequently.

In the meantime if you have a public place indoors where you like to hoop, let me know and I’ll add it to my list of suggestions.
